Ho Quoc Pagoda is a serene seaside temple on Phu Quoc's south coast — a calm, cultural change of pace from the beaches. A little preparation makes the visit smoother. Here's what first-timers should know.

What to wear

  • Modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees

  • Avoid short shorts, short skirts and sleeveless tops, especially in prayer areas

  • Easy-to-remove footwear — you'll take your shoes off to enter the Main Hall

  • Comfortable shoes for the stone steps (skip the flip-flops)

When to go

  • Early morning is best: the temple faces east and is one of the island's top sunrise viewpoints

  • Arrive around 5:30–6:00 AM for cooler air and soft light

  • Late afternoon is the quieter alternative; midday can be hot on the steps

Etiquette inside

  • Keep your voice low in the halls

  • No close-up photos during worship, and respect any "no photo" signs

  • Donations are welcome but never required — bring a little cash if you'd like to give

Best photo spots

  • The Tam Quan (triple gate)

  • The dragon staircase

  • The main courtyard and jade Buddha

  • The Guan Yin statue facing the sea

  • The temple roofs with the ocean behind

Getting there The pagoda is about 10km from the airport and 20km from Duong Dong Town, on the south-eastern coast. It's open daily 6:00 AM–6:00 PM, and both entry and parking are free.
